Progress with the Museum & Heritage Centre has given the opportunity for some unusual views which our photographers were not slow to take advantage of…. The first tickets for our first official schools visit were issued on Monday, 17th June to the pupils from Armadale Academy. In glorious sunshine our intrepid photographer took these pictures from an unusual position….
‘Hyperion’ underwent her four yearly hydraulic test which, I am pleased to report, she passed. However, the wet header gasket required replacement which meant the removal of the chimney, kylchaps, smokebox door & ring, main steam pipes & superheaters. James had lunch with some retired colleagues from Hewlett Packard and afterwards they visited Almondell for a ride around the track and a guided tour. John provided the motive power with his Feldbahn ‘Barbush’. It handled the load of three carriages with ease and the visitors enjoyed their numerous trips around the circuit. The walls on the Heritage Centre & Museum are constructed from Insulated Concrete Forms which are rigid plastic forms that hold concrete in place whilst curing and remain in place afterwards to serve as thermal insulation for concrete walls.
