ALMONDELL MODEL ENGINEERING CENTRE ACHIEVES NET ZERO TARGET

The Edinburgh Society of Model Engineers (ESME) has completed MCS Certification of our CARES funded “Model of the Future” Solar powered micro generation project, meaning that we are now generating a considerable amount of our own electricity and a bit spare to send to the grid. The £30,000 project, 80% funded by a grant from the Scottish Government Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) has enabled us to not only reduce some of our energy bill, but also allows us to decarbonise our site and balance our minimal use of fossil fuels.
Thanks go to our architects Kiloh Associates who donated their time to advise on structural and building warrant requirements, to the SMART Group for delivering an on-time and on-budget installation, and to our Local Energy Scotland CARES support team for their support.
Project leader Andrew Newton says “this has been a fulfilling project that delivers real value to our organisation and our community. We would not have been able to achieve this without the funding and ESME can be proud that we have adopted this technology and demonstrated that heritage organisations like ours can contribute towards reducing the effects of climate change”.
The ESME committee would like to thank Andrew for his efforts and remind everyone that ALL electricity has a value, so keep switching the lights off !
