A Great Eastern ‘Glasshouse’…….?

Another boiler test undertaken, this time a lovely Great Eastern liveried 2-4-2T built by Maurice P.  This is based on the LBSC 3½” gauge ‘Petrolea’, but unusually finished as a tank locomotive.

Unfortunately Maurice (on the left) didn’t bring along his driving truck which meant that he didn’t take her for a canter around the track.  Maurice promised to bring her back on another Thursday for a run in the near future.

The full sized engines were very sprightly & ran the suburban service out of Liverpool Street Station for many years.  They were affectionately known as ‘Glasshouse Gobblers’ on account of their large window cabs & prodigious appetite for coal.

It is a joy to see a model of a prototype not normally chosen.

Don’t forget you need to make an appointment for a boiler test please.
