South of Edinburgh during the festive period the sight, sound & smell of a steam locomotive making its way around a track could be detected. Member Charlie took out the recently repaired ‘Maxi Lucky 7’ on the 27th December for an ‘out & back’ run as the final event for 2020. Weight restrictions on the bridge meant it could not traverse the full circuit.
After the fall of snow over New Year Charlie then went out for his first steam of 2021 on the 2nd January with his ‘Sweet William’. This was allowed over the bridge & thus a full circuit was the order of the day. Charlie has sent the Newsdesk this video of the two runs:
‘Like everyone else, progress on my line has been slowed by Covid. We were upgrading the track, to take the big loco, but the restrictions have meant that I have mostly had to work on my own. With the winter weather settling in, I opted to re-connect the track, and enjoy some running round the complete circuit, whenever a good day came along, although that means only the smaller locos can run right round. Stay safe everyone & look forward to getting back to Almondell sometime in 2021! Yours, Charlie.’
