On Friday 10th and Saturday 11th March our Society had a superb club stand at the Model Engineering Exhibition held at Harrogate.
Thanks to Kevan Shaw who transported all of the models and display stands to Harrogate on the Thursday, managing to arrive there before the A66 was closed an hour later due to snow.
Alec West was on hand to help set up the tables and unload the models including his own super models with his Hunslet taking centre stage on the display. The backdrop was the revamped 4 column unit with the ESME letters and main logo all produced using 3d modelling by Alastair Wright and Dan Coupe. It all looked very stunning in the new corporate blue paint, together with the laminated posters organised by Andrew Newton in advance, carefully positioned by Roger Speirs during the set up. Paul Hicks helped too and set up the tv and video which was a great attraction and well watched.
It was great that some other members took part to ‘man the stand’ during the Friday and Saturday, to let others away to see the exhibition or a coffee break or even lunch. David Neale was there on the Friday but Saturday was the busier day, (Maybe due to the weather forecast.) so it was good to see John Guy and Bob Liddle helping out too. I also helped, talking to the public, handing out our brochures with Alastair Wright advising on the QR code. Other members seen at the stand or found wandering around the halls were James Stewart, Dan Coupe, Mark Coupe, Andy Milner and Roddy Watson. Sorry if I have missed anyone out.
A quote from Kevan, “a great show and well worth the visit. Lots of interest shown for the exhibits and we learned a bit about our Dunalastair engine.”
This was the first time that the exhibiton has been held in Harrogate for a few years. Lots of models from other clubs to view and a number of trade stands too. A new hall has been built which allowed space for a number of model railways of different scales. Quite a lot to see.
Thanks to everyone who made this a success, from the members working behind the scenes before, during and after the event.
Perhaps we will be back there again next year?
