Come Into The Workshop ‘Maude’…..

Robert emailed a line or two and some photographs setting out progress with his 7¼” gauge J36, 0-6-0 tender loco based on ‘Maude’ (which is preserved at Bo’ness).  With two inside cylinders of 2” diameter it should be every bit as powerful as the full size.

Robert writes ‘This model is a “one off” and no parts are available from the model suppliers.  It has therefore been necessary to produce my own wooden patterns for all the castings.   The iron castings were cast by Balantines foundry in Bo’ness.  By the way, Balantines were involved with the point castings for Almondell.  They are very helpful, but you must specify cast iron grade CR 250 to ensure they can be machined!

The tender is complete up to footplate height and all the mechanical parts for the loco are finished.  The photos show a test assembly of the cylinder and valve gear components but just now needs a final assembly and an air test to check if it will be a rolling chassis.’

We look forward to seeing and hearing the model running at Almondell!
