9th June Public Open day

Another very successful day on Sunday 9th June. Luckily the weather was good with lots of sun and the event was well supported by the public.

Cars started to arrive at 10.15 am and trains were ready to run at 10.30am. Both car parks quickly filled up and we were full up at 11.45am.  We did not turn any cars away because from that point on one would leave and another would arrive to take its place.

A very busy day with a queue at both the ticket office and at Drumshoreland station.  The longer passenger trains this year help to keep the queue moving and people did not have to wait too long.

A bit of variety was created by changing the running routes from time to time.   The original two-lap route via Almondell Central, the B route over the bridge and the main Comrie perimeter route were all used. This was very successful.

The number of passengers carried on their first train ride was 404 and we sold 480 tickets to passengers returning for discounted second and third rides. The driving experience was very popular too with 84 trainee drivers having a go.

Inside the building the “n” gauge model railway was a great attraction to both children and adults. With only two staff in the ticket office and shop they were certainly busy.

A big thanks to all involved in making the day a great success.  The public love Almondell and we seem to be having a good number of repeat visitors.  They come prepared with picnics too.
