Sponsorship News – 2017

December News

Viridor Credits have awarded funding of £43,822 towards the funding for the AMEC Heritage Centre.  Mark Coupe, Chairman of ESME: “We are extremely grateful to Viridor Credits to have the vision to support us in our efforts to create the best model engineering centre in the UK.  These facilities will increase the opportunities to stimulate and develop all aspects of engineering (mechanical, electrical & civil) skills in people of all ages and background.  The scope of the site is such that environmental responsibility and management skills, which are often overlooked, will be equally important to develop”

Thanks again, Bernie and John at A Plant

May News

This month Breedon Concrete sponsored 3 cube of concrete to complete our road crossing to the steaming lies. This was a special mix , ideally suited for open air application and guaranteed not to crack with frost.  We very much appreciate this donation and look forward to working with Breedon in future.

Thank you Breedon from the membership.

April News

Courtesy 0f Scottish Power, our electricity supply was connected via a transformer from two overhead cables.  Just in time for working indoors over the winter, we now have lights and a heater in the cabin.  In addition, creature comforts have improved with an electric kettle (tea and coffee on demand!) and we can charge the batteries of our power tools.

March News

At long last the water connection is complete. As mentioned earlier Advance Utilities provided the ground works and we have since learned that Civils and Drainage Supplies of Bellshill, near Glasgow, provide all the pipes, couplings and fittings.  Thank you CDS

Thanks to a joint sponsorship from the above, we have secured sufficient block paving, as a donation, to complete the main station platform. Thistle Timber and Building Supplies and Laird Brothers of Forfar are known for their quality of service and supplies through their association with retailers and the manufacturing of product for landscaping specialists.

February News

Our most recent sponsor is Gordow Bow Plant Hire of Broxburn

With thanks to Mr. Gordon Bow owner of the local plant hire company, Gordon Bow Plant Hire Ltd, we had the use of his new 8 ton digger and a 6 ton dumper truck to open up the cutting beyond the tunnel. This sizeable piece of kit also allowed us to remove many tree stumps impeding our way forward with track beds. Thank you Gordon.

This kit proved essential for the planned work over the Digger Week February 2017

January News

For several months we have been trying to find a solution to obtaining a mains water supply on to the site at Almondell. We were presented with a number of issues predominantly funding and lack of support.

The good news for the Society recently came from a visit by Fraser Baxter representing Advance Utilities, a division of Advance Construction Scotland. He, on behalf of his company, has offered to do the ground works for the connection of a mains water supply for which we are extremely grateful………. and on Monday January 9th the crew arrived and laid the pipeline from the road to the cabin. A fantastic job and the crew were brilliant – a couple of great guys.
